Our childbirth classes are based on the belief birth is a natural, manageable, family centered event that progresses best with love, support, and knowledge. Our goal is to help each family become wise healthcare consumers and to partner with their OB providers for a safe birth using as few interventions as possible. Although the class strives to educate consumers toward natural childbirth (i.e., unmedicated, intervention-free), classes are for prepared childbirth, not just natural childbirth. The classes use a multidisciplinary approach, pulling information from resources such as Dr. Robert Bradley (of the Bradley method), the Lamaze Institute for Normal Birth, educator/doula Penny Simkin, and midwife Ina May Gaskin (Louise recommends books by the last two women if you're searching for any supplemental education). Instructional information also includes pharmaceutical pain management options, possible medical interventions, and cesarean birth. Not only will this series prepare you for labor and birth, but it will also provide you the opportunity to meet other soon-to-be parents with whom you can share your experiences.
Please note, classes fill up quickly so we recommend you register early. However, we know that times flies when you're pregnant (except in that last month), so if you find yourself getting a late start and classes are listed as full, please contact us anyway. We can add you to a wait list in case someone delivers early or, if there's enough interest, we can add another one-day class to the schedule.
