Keeping your new baby safe will be a top priority before he or she is even born. This one-session class reviews two important yet often overlooked topics - infant CPR and infant car seat safety. It can be taken before or after pregnancy, and is recommended for parents and any regular caregivers (grandparents, etc.). It is also appropriate for couples adopting a newborn baby. This class is for educational purposes only and is not for CPR certification.
In the first half, Newborn ICU nurse Louise Dunphy teaches parents and caregivers how to recognize an infant needing emergent intervention, how to provide choking relief for an infant with an obstructed airway, and how to perform CPR. As part of the class fee, families will receive an Infant CPR Anytime® Training Kit, which includes a DVD and inflatable practice doll to practice at home. Safe sleeping and protecting against SIDS are also covered in class.
The second half of the class reviews ways to keep your infant safe when in the car, ensure they are buckled in properly every time, and includes one-on-one help with car seat installation by certified child passenger safety technician, Ashley Minihan. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has found that 3 out of 4 child safety seats are installed incorrectly. Ensure that you are not part of this statistic by getting your car seat installed properly. Bring your car seat and any applicable parts (base, etc.) for help with installation. If you don't have your car seat available yet, Ashley will gladly meet with you at a later date to help put it in. You may also email her directly to schedule a one-on-one safety review and seat installation.
